In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Chicago; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in Illinois are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

Dear Relevant Management, I am writing to provide feedback regarding a recent experience at your establishment that I found concerning. Upon placing our order, despite our group being the first customers to do so, we encountered an unexpected delay in receiving our food. The preparation time extended to approximately twenty minutes, which was noteworthy given the initial customer status. Subsequently, when I returned to the counter to request a bag for our order, I attempted to engage with the staff member. I was left feeling rather disheartened as my efforts to communicate and draw attention were seemingly unacknowledged, preventing me from obtaining the necessary item. My primary concern stems from the feeling of being overlooked as a customer. I believe that every patron deserves a basic level of acknowledgment and respectful interaction, and it is fundamental for customers to feel valued and attended to during their visit, irrespective of their background. I hope this feedback will be considered as an opportunity for internal review to ensure that all customers consistently receive the attentive and professional service expected from your establishment.

The restaurant is located in a dreary, depressing basement food court. There were a lot of delicous chewy noodles in a bowl filled with super spicy, undrinkable broth and sparse amount of beef. It was a decent bowl of noodles but unfortunately the owner charged us incorrectly. There was a 3.5% surcharge for the bowl of noodle at $20.68 became $21.31. We checked our credit card and noticed that we were charged 24.51 instead of $21.31. πŸ˜’πŸ˜’

We got take out from this basement food court. We ordered lamb bun (1 huge bun), scallion pancake and leek pocket. Husband likes the lamb bun fine. Nothing bad but he prefers the meat inside to be juicier. Scallion pancake is a little oily but seems to be pan fried rather deep fried (which I prefer). A little more salt and green onions would be better. Leek pocket has leek and eggs, no chopped glass noodles or dried shrimp which is fine for me. Tastes is good but I wish it wasn’t as doughy, I prefer my leek pocket with thinner wraps.

Pan fried buns were affordable and yummy! β€’ Beef pan fried buns ⭐️4/5 These were delicious and pan-fried the perfect amount. The beef filling was delicious. This only is available in a 6-piece β€’ Chive and egg steamed bun ⭐️2/5 The filling was basically a chive salad, not much egg. I personally did not like it. It was also a very large bun, which is fun, but made it difficult to eat **the food court is down the stairs

Located in Chinatown’s central Richland Center food hall, this spot serves up many wheat-based staples from Northern China. Overall, the food was decent and the owners are super sweet and friendly! I would love to come back to try their other menu items. Food I tried: - Spicy Beef Egg Pancake: It didn’t look as I expected, but it was quite good and flavorful! The outer pancake was thick and crispy (though could’ve had more flavor), and the inside contents featured a nice combination of different flavors and textures. It was hearty and filling. The beef was a little overcooked. - Boiled Pork and Chinese Cabbage Dumplings: These were not bad, but I wasn’t obsessed. I think they’d be better pan-fried or eaten with soup (you can ask them for a cup of the dumpling soup to eat it with!) The price is a lot better than QXY next door though, and one of the more affordable dumpling options in Chicago’s Chinatown.
